Why

There is a quiet, almost silent epidemic rapidly growing as our society begins to age yet little attention is being given to the population of older adults.

A Baby Boomer turns 65 every 8 seconds and the 85+ population is growing even more quickly:

  • The population 65+ increased from 35M in 2000 to 40 M in 2010 ;
  • 65+ projected to be 55M in 2020 (a 36% increase for the decade) and OVER 72M in 2030 – more than DOUBLE!
  • In 2020, almost 7M of those will be 85+; those with greater frailty and needs.
  • Almost half a million grandparents, 65+, have primary responsibility for raising grandchildren who live with them.

Numbers have begun to double – there will be almost 77 million older adults in 2030.

That means that 1 in 5 people will be over 60 in 2030 – a very “gray” society – are we ready?

There are already waiting lists for people seeking vital services that can help them remain independent in their own homes.

Public funding cannot match the rapidly growing demand.
